‘Star Wars: Jedi Trial’ – Chapter 26 (Part 2)

29 Feb

Wednesday and I can’t believe it’s the middle of the week already!  I got up this morning and started to get ready for my day today.  I got a shower and Heather was already on her way to work.  The weather today was not looking good later on.  My own kids in my house were convinced they were coming home almost as soon as they got to school.  I told them not to “count their chickens”.  I got my shower and got changed for the day today and then joined the kids in the living room.  We switched back and forth from the local news to “Fox and Friends”.  That’s the only thing I miss in the morning while watching “Fox and Friends”.  They don’t have any cut ins for the local news and I like to know what is going on locally.  Anyway, after some time, I was off to work and the kids were off to school.

I got to work and set things up for my day.  I then went to grab my cell phone to silence it and panicked because I realized I did not have it.  So, I emailed my wife and let her know I couldn’t find it and she told me she had it because my youngest daughter saw it on the kitchen table and brought it to her.  It made me feel better and Heather and I maintained communication today through email.  I spent my day giving keyboard tests to all levels of my classes.  Some of the tests went well and some of my students are well on their way to improving.  Other students have a long way to go to become a better musician.  But, that is the way of teaching and I try and have patience with those that don’t catch on to this instrument as quick as others.  I understand their problem because I struggled with piano at college, so I understand the plight.  My oldest daughter emailed me today and taunted me about going home early before I even got home.

I got home this afternoon after teaching and scrambled to get everything done tonight that needed to be done.  With orchestra rehearsal tomorrow night, I had to pack tonight for my weekend.  So, I worked feverishly while I watched some of my TV shows.  I continued to rotate rechargeable batteries, I finished painting some things and started to paint others.  I tried to clean up portions of my shop and get that done, but I never quite made it there by the end of the night.  I also finished working on another project I started this weekend.  I went on the Mercs boards, posted some things, worked on paper work and simply tried to get things packed.  It took me some time, but I now feel that tomorrow night I can finish up real quick and be ready to go.  The GalaxyCast staff was presenting a workshop on how to run a successful podcast and the Mandalorian Mercs are running two panels on how to make armor and modded weaponry at Genericon at RPI in Troy, NY this weekend.  It looks to be a lot of fun!  Then, on top of it all, I need to scramble to get back here to play with the Binghamton Community Orchestra at our concert at 3 PM on Sunday afternoon at West Middle School.  It will be a busy weekend.  While I worked on all of this, I watched two episodes of “Dr. Phil”, “American Choppers”, “Survivor: One World”, “Sons of Guns” and “CSI” before Heather and I went to bed.

Okay, so let’s talk about Part 2 of Chapter 26 of “Star Wars:  Jedi Trial” by David Sherman and Dan Cragg…….

‘Star Wars: Jedi Trial’ – Chapter 26 (Part 1)

28 Feb

Well, it’s Tuesday and I am going to be home for so little time today, it’s almost sickening!  I got up this morning and I’ll admit I was in a bit of a grumpy mood.  I’m not sure why, but occasionally I wake up on the wrong side of the bed.  I got in the bathroom and Heather said her good-byes to me and headed off to work.  That’s when my bad morning started to get worse.  I got my shower and joined the kids in the living room as we watched “Fox and Friends” on TV.  I ate some breakfast and we watched the news about this shooting in Ohio:

This shooting is a shame.  Supposedly this kid was bullied at school, but I have to say that I’m not convinced.  It sounds from the news report that this kid was randomly picking people to shoot, so I’m not so convinced that being bullied had anything to do with this shooting.  But, my morning was rough as it was.  I got myself going, but my oldest daughter had quite the little attitude with me this morning.  Along with that, as I put my foot into my work shoe, I put it through the bottom of my shoe and my shoes are only two weeks old!  Then, to make my day worse, when I went to start my car, it initially wouldn’t turn over.  My son left the glove box open yesterday, so I think the battery got significantly drained.  I got the car turned over and headed to work, in a bit of a foul mood.

I got to my classroom and I was running behind, but got things going in my classroom.  I set things up for my day.  My sixth graders finished their lesson on how to read key signatures and how to interpret the chart.  They then got a chance to practice for their keyboard test tomorrow.  My seventh graders finished their unit on compound meter and then they also got a chance to practice for tomorrow’s test.  My eighth graders finished their unit on rests and then we started a unit on how to interpret key signatures and then they got some time to practice their keyboards for their keyboard test tomorrow as well.  My students got a lot done today as well.  After school, we had a lot of students show up to my room and we started our workshop for SMASH.  We are having the first auditions for SMASH in quite a few years.  We had six students show up for the workshop today and we got a pretty good idea of who is prepared and who needs to do some practice.  I got done with SMASH and talked to Jim for a little bit and then came straight home.

I got home and ate dinner rather quickly and then I had a little bit of time and I switched out batteries to recharge for this weekend.  After that, I went back out of the house for Binghamton Community Orchestra rehearsal tonight.  Our next concert is this Sunday, so we are preparing for that concert tonight.  I had rehearsal from seven-thirty till nine-thirty tonight.  I then got done with practice and then came home.  When I got home, Heather had some nice surprises for me.  She had the secret project I had worked on this weekend completed.  She also put together a brand new holder for my Acer Iconia E Tablet.  It’s really nice and I know there will be those that will be jealous for me having it.  After that, we sat down and watched “Last Man Standing” and “Top Shot” before going to bed.

Well, it’s Monday and it felt like a Monday.  From the moment I got up till the moment I went to sleep today, I felt like I was working and constantly on the go.  I’m hoping that one of these days I won’t feel that way.  I got up this morning and headed into the shower as Heather was finishing getting ready for her day today.  I got my shower and got changed and joined the kids in the living room as we watched “Fox and Friends” for the morning.  Of course, their talk of the town this morning was the primaries that are occurring tomorrow in the states of Michigan and Arizona.  I find it interesting that they didn’t even mention that Newt Gingrich hasn’t even campaigned in these states and isn’t even on the ballot!  Anyway, after some time I was off to work while the kids were off to school.

I got to work and set things up for my day today.  It was a day of music theory and my classes all have a lot of work to do before the end of the quarter, but they are all well on their way and are on track to do well.  My sixth graders finished up their unit on key signatures and then we learned about the stem rules.  My seventh graders started to conclude their unit on compound meter and I suspect we will need to finish it for a little bit tomorrow.  My eighth graders worked with me on the intro to music composition and then worked on scope and sequence as well.  My classes all performed well.  I had a meeting during my prep period today as well as having Stage Band during lunch today as well.  I got a lot done, but I felt like I didn’t somehow.  I got done with my instructional day and headed right home.

I got home and the kids were at their piano lessons.  So, I got changed and walked the dog or the dog walked me, I’m not sure which is more accurate.  After some time, I came home and the kids showed up.  We went in the house and Heather cooked dinner and I finished my secret project from the weekend.  I then started to work on updating the podcast powerpoint for the weekend, and I decided I was better off just starting over.  After some time, I went upstairs and joined the kids for dinner.  After dinner, we dropped Tara off to the fire station for a Girl Scout meeting and then Heather and I went to Jackson Hewitt to finish our taxes.  We came home and I went into the basement and finished working on the powerpoint, which took me most of the night.  I also worked on this blog and got my secret project almost completed as well.  I worked hard and Heather worked hard on a cover for my new tablet PC.  I didn’t have the heart to tell her it was too big, I didn’t have the heart.  While I worked, I watched my usual CBS shows including “How I Met Your Mother”, “Two Broke Girls”, “Two and a Half Men”, “Mike and Molly” before I switched over to watching “Smash” on NBC before heading to bed.

Okay, no reading tonight.  Instead, we’re going to ask you to over to the GalaxyCast Website and check out Episode #76 of the GalaxyCast podcast.   As always, we would like to thank Mike Wilkerson and the 2 Guys Talking Podcast Network for all their support!  MAY THE FORCE BE WITH THOSE WHO LISTEN!

26 Feb

Sunday and it was not quite a day of rest, but I will admit that we had more rest today than we have had in quite some time.  I got up and got the girls up while I watched a sermon by Randy Eliason of the First Assembly of God in downtown Binghamton.  It was a nice sermon and got me to think about my association with other Christians and how we all treat each other.  I then got a shower as the kids got dressed and got ready for church.  I got dressed as Heather got a shower and the kids and I had some cereal for breakfast.  As we finished getting ready, Austin showed back up at home from his camp out and we told him to get a shower and head to bed and then we all headed off to church.

We got to church and the girls brought in their Girl Scout cookies and we headed upstairs.  We had a very nice service and I have to say that the sermon was very concise and directed and I am very much a person that likes to study more than anything else and I really liked the sermon.  After church, I talked to the music director and we talked about me playing trumpet for Palm Sunday and then playing for Easter Sunday as well.  After the service, Heather and I hung around and we helped the girls by distributing their Girl Scout cookies.  After that, we went back home.  Heather ended up going back over and picking up the girls.  I kept working on my secret project for the weekend and started to put the finishing touches on Gary’s Mandaorian kit and helmet.  The kids came home and we all sat down and ate some lunch together and watched “Parking Wars” and “Billy the Exterminator” on DVR while we ate.  Afterward, I continued to work on my project while I watched the rest of “Fringe” along with “Blue Bloods” and then I tried to watch the “Daytona 500″, but it was delayed due to rain.

After working for almost the entire afternoon and working hard to start cleaning up the shop, I then started to watch some other shows until it was time for dinner.  While we ate dinner, the kids watched “Johnny English” with me and we finished it up after dinner and considering they were a “Mr. Bean” fan, they loved the movie!  After that, I spent the rest of the night cleaning up the shop and watching my usual shows including “Amazing Race” and “Celebrity Apprentice” since everything else was on re-runs considering the Academy Awards were on tonight, and I REFUSE to watch them!

Saturday and it should have been a day of rest, but somehow that was just not meant to be for us.  Heather got out of bed around seven o’clock this morning and started the Crissman Taxi Service.  She took Austin over to Boy Scouts by seven-thirty so he could meet with his leader and go on his camp-out.  Then she took Ruth over to the High School to catch her bus for All County Chorus by eight o’clock.  She came back home and both of us crashed back in bed until almost ten o’clock.   We haven’t been able to sleep like that in a long time!  We got up and I went directly into the basement and started to work on my project for the day.  My day-long project would take up most of my time today.  I did learn some valuable lessons, however.  For example, dremmeling your hand is not a smart thing to do (duh!).  Also, sheet metal will heat up as you are cutting it, so you may actually burn your hand if you are holding it while cutting.

I worked hard till lunchtime and then I took a break and ate some lunch.  I worked hard with the project until two-thirty and then I got ready and we left for Ruth’s BCMEA All County Concert.  We went over to Binghamton University and had listened to a concert at the Anderson Center.  It was a nice concert and I think my daughter had fun singing.  I particularly liked some of the songs chosen, but the kids obviously liked the song they choose from “Grease” the musical. After the concert, we went over to Wal Mart and got some things we needed for home.  We then stopped at “Lowes” and got me some tools I needed for home before we stopped at Harbor Freight to get some other tools we needed.  After stopping there, we took Ruth out for dinner.  We stopped at “Applebees” in Vestal, but their wait was thirty minutes (at best) and we decided we didn’t want to wait that long.  So, we headed over to “Friendly’s” on Front Street and had dinner and ice cream there.  We got done with dinner and headed home.

When we got home, the girls put away the food and watched a movie while Heather and I both worked on our own projects.  I was happy with what I was able to accomplish today because I was able to cut out 18 of the small projects I was working on and was now down to the sanding portions by the end of the night.  I was also able to watch “Fringe”, “Dr. Phil”, “Blue Bloods”, and “Saturday Night Live” before going to bed.  It was a long, but effective day.

24 Feb

Well, it’s Friday and I can’t say that I’m not happy that it is.  I was actually looking forward to the weekend because I have some big projects planned and because of all the hard work I have done throughout the week this week, I feel very prepared for the weekend.  I got up this morning and headed into the shower as Heather headed out to work.  She was not looking forward to the day today as the weather was looking pretty bad this morning and my wife has to be more cautious on the road when there is snow and ice.  She really likes to make sure her students get to where they need to be safely.  I think all the tax payers appreciate that.  I got out of the shower and got dressed and joined the kids in the living room as we watched “Fox and Friends” this morning.  They really didn’t cover anything new, other than to try and get people to go to the movies this weekend to watch “Act of Valor”.  It’s actually an interesting movie for two reasons:  they use live fire, they used real Navy Seals as stars in the movie.  It looks interesting, but I’m not sure it’s enough to get me to the theater this weekend.   After some time, I was off to work and the kids were off to school.

I got to work today and started to work on getting things ready for the day.  Today my students were working on projects, so my sixth graders started to watch Season 11 of “American Idol”.  They are starting to see the value in a good singer.   That has helped me understand where they are coming from when watching a show like this.  My seventh graders continued working on research for their music podcast projects and several groups are coming close to being able to script out their podcasts.  My eighth graders finished their research and started planning on their projects while my other class continued watching “West Side Story”.  I think they will have one more week of that and then they will be done with it.  I got done with my instructional day and headed straight home.

I got home and Heather wanted to go out quick before David and Gary came over tonight.  So, we went out to Lowes and got some quick supplies and I had an idea that would take over as my big project for the weekend.  I bought some sheet metal and a cutter for my dremmel and then we came home after getting some dinner at “Wendy’s”.  We got home and I finished up Gary’s armor and began to finish up his helmet.  While I worked on that, I watched “Dr. Phil” and then switched over to working on the new project.  I tried cutting the sheet metal, but ended up having to go back to my usual metal cutting blade of the cutting wheel on my Dremmel.   But, before I could finish, David and Gary showed up.  We finished fitting Gary for his Mando and figured out what we needed to do to get him ready for Genericon next weekend.  Then we watched the next episode of “The Clone Wars” and then recorded the next episode of “GalaxyCast”.  After that, we talked for a little bit and the guys went home.  I then kept working on my project and then watched “Kitchen Nightmares” with Heather before going to bed.

‘Star Wars: Jedi Trial’ – Chapter 25 (Part 5)

23 Feb

Well, it’s Thursday and it’s hard to believe that this work week is flying by as fast as it is.  I woke up this morning a little tired, but I had felt like I had accomplished so much yesterday and quite honestly, I did get a lot done.  I got up and headed into the shower while Heather was finishing getting ready for work.  She headed out the door and I headed into the shower.  I finished with my shower and got dressed and then joined the kids in the family room and we watched “Fox and Friends” while we got ready for our days.  Today’s big story was the debate from last night.  It’s interesting that depending on your point of view, the debate either went well for Rick Santorum and he was able to stave off all the criticism or he did awful and should have been on the offensive more and should have attacked our President more.  I’m not sure because I did not watch the debate, but I can tell you that the next few primaries will tell us how it really turned out.  After some time, I was off to work while the kids were off to school.

I got to work and set things up for music history today.  My sixth graders started and almost finished their work with the Renaissance.  They worked hard and I was proud of what they were able to accomplish.  My seventh graders worked on learning about George Frideric Handel and I was proud of what they were able to make some real-life connections with Handel’s life.  We also learned about Henry Purcell and they almost finished the lesson.  My eighth graders reviewed last week’s segment and then we finished up watching Ken Burns’ “Jazz” on the Roaring 20s.  Overall, it was a good instructional day and I felt as though I had done a lot as far as paperwork was concerned and I can say that I am finally getting caught up on paperwork, which is taking some pressure off of me.

When I got done with my day, I headed home and when I got home, I continued to work.  I finished spray painting Gary’s new chest plates and hopefully tomorrow night (while he’s over for recording) I’ll be able to fit him and his chest plates will be done and all I will need to do is finish up his helmet, which simply requires a minimal amount of sanding and some paint.  Honestly, I think the helmet looks better now than it ever did.  After some time, Heather came home and we then talked a little bit and went upstairs for dinner.  We had rolls and goulash and before I knew it, dinner was over and Heather and I headed downstairs.  We finished watching “CSI: Miami” for Heather and then I finished watching “Dr. Phil” from today where a woman was talking about the advantages of an open marriage and about how her own children know what they are doing.  I agree with Dr. Phil, that is WAY too of an adult conversation to have with an eleven year old.  Anyway, Heather started watching “Law and Order: SVU” while I got dressed into my tux.  After I got dressed, she put on some make up and we headed over to Oakdale Mall.

I got there and then suddenly realized that I did not have my tux jacket with me.  Woops!  So, Heather took the kids and headed home and got my jacket and came back.  In the meantime, I warmed up on my trumpet and my kids and wife showed up just before I played.  They put us in the main court in the center of the mall and I have to say that the acoustics in there were rather interesting.  It made our orchestra sound much larger than they are.  At the same time, it was hard to coordinate tempos because of the echo effect that occured there.  The orchestra performed very well.  I, on the other hand, had some issues tonight.  For some reason, some notes were just not speaking out of my instrument.  Especially light E and C’s.  I guess it was just not my night to play piano instead of forte.  Before I knew it, I was done with the concert and we drove home.

Once we got home, I got changed and headed into the basement and continued to work on Gary’s helmet and started to re-lacquer my Mandalorian Mercs dogtags.  They were starting to look old and grimy and I needed to give them a fresh coat.  After some time, Heather and I sat down and watched “Big Bang Theory” together.  I then watched “Rob!”, “The Office”, “Parks and Recreation” and started to watch “Up All Night”.  Before long, it was time to head to bed because our night was getting long.

22 Feb

Well, it’s Wednesday and it’s the middle of the week.  Is it odd that I feel like this week is flying by and also going slowly all at the same time?  I feel like I’m running a treadmill and getting a lot done, but somehow the world around me is going by oh-so slowly.  I got up this morning and headed into the shower and Heather said goodbye to me before heading off to work.  I got my shower and then got dressed and joined the kids in the family room to watch “Fox and Friends” on TV while we got ready for our days.  Today’s news was the prep working going into tonight’s debate before some other major primaries.  I get the impression that even FoxNews is surprised that Rick Santorum is still on top and seems to be maintaining a bit of a lead in most states.  They made sure to show the graphic about the fact that Santorum can’t beat Obama according to a Rasmusen Poll, but that Mitt Romney can.  I’m so tired of the establishment trying to ram down my throat how I should vote.  I think we should just make it illegal to cover anything but the facts during an election.  Anyway, after some time, I was off to work while the kids were off to school.

I got to work and set things up for my day today.  Today was a day of Music Application.  My sixth graders had some time on keyboard to work on both the left and right hand for the C and D Scales and we then introduced the right hand for the G Scale.  My seventh graders practiced their C and D Scales hands together and then started to work on the G Scale as well.  My eighth graders had a period to put both hands together for “Mary Had A Little Lamb” so they could play both melody and harmony for our tests next week.  Overall, my students worked hard and got a lot done.  I was happy with my instructional day and I also got a lot of paperwork done today and felt like I was organized for the first time this school year.  I love it when a plan comes together!  After some time, I was then on my way home.

I went down to Pennsylvania to get some gas in my car and then came back home and by the time I got home, it was almost four-thirty.  I talked to Heather for a brief amount of time and then headed into the basement.  I took some pictures of Gary’s bucket and then started to tape up the T-Visor and the lights and prepped the helmet for me to paint later tonight.  As I was prepping, I watched an episode of “Dr. Phil” while I worked and then was called upstairs for dinner.  We had a nice dinner of tacos and all the fixings.  It was a nice dinner and I enjoyed it very much.  After dinner, I went into the basement and continued to work on Gary’s armor as I watched two episodes of “Dr. Phil”.  I got the flat black done on his armor and had the Color Change paint on it by the end of the night.  His helmet took a little longer, so I was only able to flat black it tonight, but I should be able to finish his armor this weekend (which will make me SO happy!).  While I worked on all of this, I watched “Unforgettable”, “Survivor: One World”, “Criminal Minds”, “CSI”, and then “Whitney” before heading to bed.

21 Feb

Well, it’s Tuesday and although it was the second day of the week, it felt like a Monday somehow.  I got up this morning and headed straight for the shower.  I took my shower and Heather came in and said goodbye a minute and then she was off to work while I finished up my shower.  After my shower, I got dressed for work and joined the kids in the family room and we watched “Fox and Friends” while we got ready for our days.  Fox seems surprised at the idea that we may go into the Republican National Convention with a brokered convention.  I’m not surprised at all and I think that is exactly what some people are banking on.  In a situation like that, I wouldn’t be surprised to see a Tea Party leader like Sarah Palin or Tim Pawlenty come out of a convention like that with the nod.  That would be every liberal’s worst nightmare.  However, I don’t think any of it will matter.  It will not matter who the Republican nominee is.  I truly believe that Obama will do whatever it takes to win the election this year.  I think somehow the Democrats have figured out how to “buck” the system.  I think there will be more “voting dead” than ever before, more illegals voting, and more people voting with the name Jose and John than ever before in American history!  That is my belief anyway, take it or leave it.  Anyway, after some time I was off to work and the kids were off to school.

I got to work and set things up for my day.  It was another day of Music Theory for my students.  My sixth graders finished their unit on sharps and flats and started a unit on key signatures.  My seventh graders did a unit on common time and compound meter and we began to explain how compound meter works.  My eighth graders did their review on the Rhythm Pyramid and the stem rules.  Overall, my instructional day went rather well with just a few minor issues.  But I dealt with them and we moved on.  I got done with my instructional day and then hung out for SMASH rehearsal.  Of course I think all my students were still running on the high of last week’s STOMP concert.  We had a great rehearsal and talked about our auditions that are going to start next week.  I think the students are just as anxious as we are to see who we can get to audition for our group.  After SMASH rehearsal, I headed right home.

I got home and joined the family for dinner right away.  We ate some chili for dinner and after dinner, Heather and I relaxed and talked for a little bit while we watched the news.  After that I went into the basement and watched “The Simpsons”, “Napolean Dynamite”, and “American Choppers” on DVR while I continued to work on Gary’s helmet because I have it set in my head that I am going to get him set before Genericon.  I then watched “Glee”, “Last Man Standing”, “New Girl”, an episode of “Dr. Phil” and “Top Shot” before going to bed.

20 Feb

Happy President’s Day!

Well, that’s what I think you are supposed to say when it’s President’s Day.  I would love to say that I was an awesome American today that reflected on the wonderful Presidents that we have had in the past, but I gotta say I didn’t even have time to be noble and do that.  I got out of bed around seven-thirty this morning and couldn’t believe that I got out of bed this early.  I went out to the living room with Tara who had put in “Dolphin Tale” and was watching the beginning of the movie.  After some time, I went downstairs and started to work on all the things that needed to get done.  I watched some episodes of “Dr. Phil” while I started to clear out the laptop.  I worked on finishing up my students’ podcasts from last quarter.  That’s right, I have had that little time in my life that I haven’t been able to finish the podcasts from last quarter.  I got through three “Dr. Phil” episodes as well as an episode of “Law and Order: SVU” with Heather as I finished the podcasts.  I then processed the videos from last quarter just before Heather left to meet with David.

While Heather was over at TCO starting to put together a new sewing table that was going to have more storage and a larger table top.  I watched “Fringe” while I got some lunch.  After lunch, I finished “Fringe” then recorded another “Clone Wars in a Galactic Minute” and then finished editing it out and got caught up to the latest episode of “The Clone Wars”.  Then I started to watch “Blue Bloods” and worked on updating the podcasts before the rest of the staff came over to record.  After just another hour, Heather and David had her room set back up and Gary showed up, so we started to record.  We watched two episodes of “The Clone Wars” and recorded in-between and got up to date on the show.  Gary stuck around for a little bit and ate a dinner of pizza with us and then left.  After dinner, I went into the basement and processed last quarter’s music videos and got them published.  I did all that while I watched “Blue Bloods”, followed by two episodes of “Parking Wars” and then two episodes of “Billy the Exterminator” before switching over to my usual line-up of “How I Met Your Mother”, “Two Broke Girls”, “Two and a Half Men”, “Mike and Molly” and then “SMASH” on DVR before heading to bed.  I got a lot done today, but I still don’t somehow feel like it’s enough!
